The southern section of the Newport Bike Path is a paved path adjacent to the railroad parallel to Main Street in Newport. It then turns north to parallel US-5 to Park Avenue. The path follows roads between Park Avenue and Prouty Beach where it picks up as a paved path through the woods and along Freeman Road to Bluff Street. From Bluff Street to the hospital, the path again follows roads. Please use caution and pay attention to traffic.
Past the hospital, the path turns north and follows an old railroad bed to the Canadian border. This section is gravel. The path travels through wetland habitat and along Lake Memphremagog with views across the lake.
To continue on to bike paths in Canada, bike east to the border crossing in Beebe, Vermont. Make sure to bring your passport and abide by all regulations.
The section from the hospital to Memphremagog Trail is groomed for cross country skiing in the winter.
